The Frightening Myths About Eclipses from the Age of the Prophet, China Up to Java

Eclipse is a rare natural event. Eclipse is also one sign of the omnipotence of Allah SWT. Both the eclipse of the sun and the eclipse of the moon.
On 14 Jumadil Awal 1439 Hijriah or coinciding with January 31, 2018, all regions in Indonesia will experience a total lunar eclipse. Partial lunar eclipse starts at 18:48 pm. While the total lunar eclipse starts at 19:52 and ends at 21:11 pm.
Events of eclipses in some places still interpreted some people with certain myths and it is strongly believed strong.
In Japan, for example, some people believe in eclipses because there are poison events that are disseminated in the earth. In order for water to not be contaminated, people close their water resources (wells).
In China, people believe the eclipse occurs because a sky dragon floods the river with blood, then swallows it.
In Java, some think the lunar eclipse occurs because Batara Kala or the evil giant is preying on the moon. Then people will hit the kentongan in a busy way when there is gerhani to scare and drive out the evil giant.
In Arab society, then, especially the tribe of Quraysh, eclipses are associated with the death or birth of a person.
Prophet's son named Ibrahim died. The event of death coincides with the eclipse. So some Arabs associate the eclipse with the death.
These myths are of course unfounded and can not be proven scientifically (saintik).
When delivering the sermon, after completing the eclipse prayer, the Prophet SAW asserted, "The sun and the moon are two signs from many signs of greatness and power of God. The occurrence of solar and lunar eclipses is not due to the life or death of a person. Therefore, when you see it, pray to God. Akakbirlah, carry out the eclipse prayer and give alms. "(HR Muttafaq alaih)
May we not be trapped and shackled with thoughts that threaten common sense.
