A particularly dreadful
case occurred in Uttarakhand, India, an unnamed 14-year-old teenager who
suffered from acute anemia and had to endure a blood transfusion for 2
years. This is caused by the loss of 22 liters of blood from within his body.
Although many times have checked into the doctor because it has a very pale appearance, weight loss drastically, and growth is also dwarfed for adolescents his age, doctors can only diagnose acute anemia without knowing what triggers the arrival of this anemia.
Luckily, the teenager then moved to a more adequate medical service, precisely at Sir Gangga Ram Hospital in Delhi. When examined this doctor from the hospital found a hookworm that was nested in the small intestine and suck the blood of the teenager.
In the newly published Journal of Infectious Diseases and Therapy, Dr. Anil Arora who is the head of the department of gastroenterology at the hospital mentioned that the hookworm that is in the body of the teenager is not diagnosed in a timely manner so as to cause various health complications. In fact, the adolescent hemoglobin level is only 5.86 and affects the lung and small intestine significantly.
When performing capsule endoscopy, it is clear that the hookworm present in this small intestine is red because it sucks the teenager's blood. Allegedly, this worm into the body of the teen because it consumes food or drinks that are not hygienic.
Given the hookworms found in Asia, including Indonesia, it is better we do not carelessly snack or eat in various places so as not to be contaminated by this horrible worm.
